What can you expect from physical therapy (at Streamline PT)?

By definition, ‘Physical therapy is a non-invasive discipline that helps individuals develop, maintain and restore maximal body movement and physical function. Physical therapy can help clients recover from an injury, relieve pain, prevent future injury or deal with a chronic issue.’

What does this mean for you?

Being able to continue to do what you love: swim, run, hike, lift that weight, achieve those goals.

Physical therapy used to fall into a pretty passive rehabilitation category, and honestly, got a pretty bad rap – ride on the stationary bike for 10 minutes, put a hot pack on the painful area and get an ultrasound. MAYBE the PT (or the assistant) would do some passive range of motion (move the arm or leg or whatever for you), if you were lucky enough to get some hands on care. Often, if exercises were done in the clinic, it was a repeat of what exercises you received to do at home.

What’s the point?

At Streamline PT, you can expect a more collaborative process – we’ll work together to find the source of your pain and then form a plan to help you get more mobile, flexible or strong. We’ll find compensations and asymmetries and use one-on-one, hands-on techniques to get you back more quickly. We’ll focus on FUNCTION so that you can see RESULTS.

Are you still going to have to do your exercises at home? Of course. But that allows us to make progress and move forward in the time that you have at the clinic – meaning we don’t have to see you as often, and you can focus on doing what you need to do. Almost makes too much sense…
